Sheffield Girls' and Birkdale Joint Sixth Form Choir performance is Poetry in Motion

On Monday this week we hosted our joint Sheffield Girls' and Birkdale Sixth Form choral and orchestral concert, their last concert for a while!  The theme of the evening was scientific, involving formulae such as force = mass x acceleration and weight = mass x gravitational field strength (thanks to Dr Dinsdale!). 

The students performed a Mass by Mozart and other solos and choir items related to the theme, with songs such as ‘Under Pressure’ and ‘Fly me to the moon’ (escaping gravity!).

Last week we were also delighted to welcome the Ligeti string quartet into school to perform to our Junior and Year 7-9 string players.  The Ligeti quartet is one of the UK’s foremost chamber ensembles and has a particular reputation for contemporary music.  They are currently Artists in Residence at the University.  They demonstrated all sorts of wonderful and bizarre techniques which captivated the audience and inspired everyone to be experimental and think out of the box!
