Around the world with Worldwise Quiz
Year 10 Geographers put their worldwide knowledge to the test in this year’s annual Worldwise Quiz on the 28th November, held by the South Yorkshire Geographical Association and hosted by the University of Sheffield’s Department of Geography.
Our team of Kashish, Lucy and Ashwini were excited to represent the school and raring to take on the tricky challenges presented by the University’s undergraduate Geography student ambassadors.
The first of five rounds consisted of a Kahoot quiz on one of the most important aspects of Geography, fieldwork - the process of observing and collecting data about people, cultures, and natural environments - sponsored by the environmental education charity Field Studies Council. This moved swiftly into the second round with an 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey map also sponsored by the national mapping agency themselves. Looking outside of the UK the girls then answered questions on sunny Italy, followed by a difficult round guessing famous landmarks, and finished the quiz back in Sheffield thinking about the more familiar local geography.
Mrs White, Deputy Head and Teacher of Geography, said, “The team finished in fifth place overall - it was a great night, with the team performing well and most importantly having great fun. Well done girls!”
