Sheffield Girls' Infant School Curriculum

Sheffield Girls’ Infant School aims to encourage all girls to develop independent learning skills while fostering a love of learning.

Early Years education

For girls in Reception, the curriculum follows the guidance on the National Curriculum Early Years Foundation Stage where the three prime areas of learning and development are:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development

The four specific areas of learning and development are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

We deliver all these areas through carefully planned focused activities and purposeful play, with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities.  Learning is enriched through an engaging programme of visits and visitors. By choosing one of the best private primary schools in Sheffield you are enabling your daughter to develop a solid foundation in education which will enable her to develop to her full potential.

Once your daughter moves into Year 1 and Year 2 in the Infant School, we offer a broad, balanced and flexible curriculum which provides opportunities for all pupils to make progress, enjoy learning and fully develop their abilities.  At primary level we encourage girls to be enthusiastic, self-motivated and enquiring learners and ensure that what is taught is relevant and stimulating and meets the learning needs of each individual.

One of the best primary schools in Sheffield

Our curriculum enables girls to acquire skills in speaking, reading, writing and mathematics, constantly providing them with opportunities to engage and develop their reasoning skills.

As well as the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, our broader infant and junior school curriculum includes History, Geography, Religious Studies as well as specialist teaching in Music, Modern Foreign Languages (French, Spanish and German), Art and Design and Physical Education.

We aim to:

  • provide a curriculum in line with the school’s aims and ethos
  • allow all girls to learn and make progress
  • foster a love of learning, stimulating curiosity, encouraging independence and enhancing self-belief
  • provide a framework of knowledge, skills and understanding that prepare your daughter for the opportunities and responsibilities ahead of her
  • provide the guidance and pastoral support to enable the girls to match their potential
